This campaign in Nigeria offers consumers the opportunity to trade in a wide range of smartphones for a Samsung device. Device Trade-In or The Smart Trade Programme, initiated by Samsung, has to date only been implemented in Nigeria, with further market roll out to be confirmed. 
So the trade-in program is only applicable in Nigeria and is not limited to Samsung phones only but in fact any smartphone can be traded in. 
Samsung clarified that a  wide range of Smartphones from all major brands, including Samsung, can qualify for the Smart Trade Programme, although some models might not be eligible”. So it would seem that all those phones you have sitting in your bottom drawer that are perfectly fine now have a new purpose. Your old Note 1 and S2  and that iPhone 3 can now be used towards your new Samsung device. Superbly played Samsung. Now that is real value.

The trade-in program work on the following basis:

  • Value of the smartphone is determined based on a grading system whereby the consumer’s device is categorised based on its condition
  • The 3 grading classes are:
    • o Perfect condition;
    • o Good condition ;
    • o Or broken,
  • Each grading category has explanatory definitions that allow the participating Samsung channel to accurately attribute a value to the device;
  • The process is system driven and does not allow for a manual value to be determined by the sales consultant;
  • The trade in value or coupon can only be used/credited against the purchase of a new Samsung Premium device;
  • No cash payment can be made to the consumer for the device.
