Yesterday, when New Yorkers were mostly sitting home waiting for the storm to strike, the rash of Sandy-themed online sales seemed like a good way to take advantage of a bored, Internet-adjacent shopping demographic. But today, as everyone tries to come to terms with the widespread damage, things look pretty different. Racked National reports that an anti-Sandy-sale backlash started to build on Twitter last night, largely in response to American Apparel’s offer of 20% off in certain East Coast states. Writes one Twitterer: “I just received a ‘Hurricane Sandy sale’ email blast from @americanapparel. I will forever boycott their stores. RT if you’re with me.”
